To try to generate excitement, the creators of this one insisted it featured "all the excitement" of actual football. With an open path to the end zone, this is what the number one console in the day scored a touchdown with.

But it was still nothing too impressive. Yes, people were pretty stoked to see some improvements, but this wasn't the sports video game to put sports video games on top. It would take a few more years for that to happen. This one was a big innovation for football video games, and has fans who still swear by it. This one held the top spot for football video game fans forever. Makes sense that it was so revered by the hardcore gamer - it really was the first true attempt to recreate the NFL. Graphics and sound were vastly improved, so for many years, this was the video football game. It's even got a presence in the gaming world today, thanks to its online comeback. That being said, PS3 Madden 10 still blows it away. Once you've viewed all the other games, have a gander at PS3 Madden 10.
Yes, technology has been good to the video game world in general, and the football video game has benefitted from it all. That being said, time to lay off making fun of the older football video games. No need to beat a dead horse. Those games, while archaic, got us to where we are today, and for that, they deserve their place in the video game hall of fame (though that first one may be better off in "video game hall of shame.") PS3 Madden 10 is in a whole different stratosphere than its predecessors, and for that, hardcore gamers have every reason to be stoked. And of course, the critics are equally enthusiastic about PS3 Madden 10, which is even more good news for fans of the franchise. Comments like "realistic and enjoyable" pepper each PS3 Madden 10 review. Once again, EA Sports makes a win with PS3 Madden 10 - was there any doubt?

Not to disparage the other PlayStation sports video games - they're all pretty excellent in their own right, but PS3 Madden rules the playing field.
